G funk is funk music with an artificially lowered tempo, incorporating multi-layered and melodic synthesizers, slow hypnotic grooves, deep bass, a slurred “lazy” way of rapping to stay in rhythmic cadence, background female vocals, extensive sampling of p-funk tunes, and a high portamento sine wave keyboard lead . . .
It really does sound this good.
A couple of (nostalgic) shout outs:
to Wayne Fernandez, influential Melbourne DJ who presented WKD on PBS 106.7FM (sadly no longer on the air and Wayne's no longer in Melbourne) . . . the 90s would not have been the same . . . WKD was the main source for RnB and Hip Hop in Melbourne at the time and made Saturday night a good night to stay indoors.
And also to Vicky (P?) and Sally from the Valley who presented FUNK SKOOL, another great PBS show dedicated to RnB and Hip Hop.
